Privacy Policy

FamilySlate ("we", "us") is a shared family calendar at familyslate.org. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. By using FamilySlate you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and password (stored scrambled, never readable by us), or your Google sign-in if you choose it.
- Family details you add: children's first names, birthdays, grown-ups' names, home names, events, pick-up and drop-off notes, travel details, emergency contacts, locations, High Fives and notes.
- Records: a permanent history of every request, approval, decline, change and access change, with who did it and when.
- Payment details: handled by our payment partner Paddle. We never see or store your full card number. We keep your plan, status and receipts.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, a device address your browser gives us so we can send messages to that device, plus your notification choices.
- Basic technical information: such as browser type, pages visited and error reports, used to keep the service working.
How we use it
- To run the calendar, approvals, High Fives, records, exports and calendar links.
- To send emails you need (sign-up confirmation, password resets, invitations, approval reminders, trial and payment notices) and notifications you turn on.
- To process payments and prevent misuse.
- To fix problems and improve FamilySlate.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who can see your information
- Your family: the admin of a calendar decides who is invited and which calendars each person can see. Co-parents and other grown-ups only see the calendars they have been given.
- Calendar links: anyone who has a calendar link you create can see the events in it. Share links carefully and remove them if needed.
- Whole Home: if you choose "Continue with FamilySlate" in the Whole Home app, it can see and suggest events only on calendars you are allowed to see. Anything it sends waits for the admin's approval.
- Service providers: companies that host our app and database, send email, and process payments (Paddle), only as needed to provide the service.
- Legal reasons: if required by law, court order, or to protect someone's safety.
Records and court use
FamilySlate keeps a permanent record of requests and approvals so families can rely on it, including for court or mediation. Records cannot be edited or deleted by family members. Exports you create are your responsibility once downloaded.
Children's information
FamilySlate is for adults. Children do not have accounts. Parents and guardians add children's names, birthdays and events, and confirm they have the right to do so. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13.
Keeping it safe
Information is sent over encrypted connections, access is limited by permission rules on our servers, and passwords are checked against known leaks. No system is perfect, so please use a strong password and keep it private.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active. If a calendar's payment ends, it stays view-only for a period so you can export it, then may be removed. Records may be kept longer where the law requires.
Your choices
- View, correct or export your information in the app.
- Turn notifications and email reminders on or off in Settings.
- Ask us to delete your account by emailing us. Some records may need to be kept for legal reasons.
- Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights to access, correct or delete your information.
Changes
We may update this policy. If the change is important, we'll let you know in the app or by email.
